The Knicks have discussed many trade talks and attempted different scenarios to part ways with C Joakim Noah. A few of the Knicks' staff have publicly announced that Joakim Noah will exit New York before training camp which will take place on September 25, 2018. Noah averaged 4.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 46 games as a Knick. Joakim Noah was handed a 20-game suspension (without pay) after testing positive to a boosting drug, breaking the NBA's anti-drug program. By the time Joakim Noah returned from his suspension, the Knicks had already acquired starting C; Enes Kanter as well as, young Luke Kornet. This forced Noah out of the rotation. Noah's companions announced Noah's opinion on the situation; "Joakim was completely forthcoming and cooperative throughout the investigation and we believe that this isolated occurrence was a regrettable mistake," the union statement said. "Joakim has offered his deepest apologies for this infraction, and neither he nor the NBPA will pursue an appeal." Noah has not played an NBA game since December 30, 2017 when he netted 4 points, grabbed a total of 4 rebounds and even clinched the tight game by a shovel pass to Kristaps Porzingis. Ever since then, the Knicks have been paying Joakim Noah $18.6 M annually and the Knicks can't deal with that much 'wasted' cap space as they won't be hesitant to go after Kyrie Irving or Jimmy Butler in the 2019 NBA offseason. This is why Joakim Noah is near the brink of elimination in New York.
